Hi! My name is Chris Randall, and I'm the owner/CEO of Sweep. If you are reading this, then it shows you care greatly about who you work with. Let me tell you a little about myself! I was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan. I attended school at Mona Shores High and Muskegon Community College. I absolutely love the lakeshore for its beaches, views, and its delicious eateries. I visit my family in Muskegon as often as possible.
I moved to the Grand Rapids area in 2016. Originally, I moved because of my job with PepsiCo. It turned out to be a great starting point for Sweep! Currently I reside in Rockford, MI. I absolutely love the community here, and feel that the greater Grand Rapids area fits perfectly with Sweep. There is lots of growth happening every year, and there is a slew of young professionals who could use help maintaining cleanliness in their homes while they focus on their mission.
I decided to start Sweep on a whim. On my way to work I was listening to the audio book “My Personal MBA” by Josh Kaufman. Josh was mentioning different categories that make for a great business idea. Suddenly, a light bulb turned on in my head and Sweep came to life. I quickly brought the idea to reality by putting my thoughts on paper and doing all sorts of research on the industry. This business excites me because I can relate to the need for this service. During my long work days with Pepsi, I’d often come home to a stressful mess!
Experience
While in school, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. I knew that I had a knack for business, but never fully committed to the idea of entrepreneurship. I contemplated going the traditional route. I studied Advertising for a year at Davenport University before deciding that an aimless life of student debt was not for me.
At that point, I fully committed to my career at PepsiCo. I started off as a merchandiser, and worked my way up the ladder. I had some experience managing the warehouse team, but most of my time with Pepsi was spent in account management. I managed the larges grocery stores to the smallest convenince stores in about every part of West Michigan. I thrived on my route, ranking #1 in the Great Lakes Region for volume and growth, and won Pepsi’s coveted “Dominate the Great Lakes” competition in 2018 which consisted of every account manager in the Great Lakes region (5 states). I was constantly receiving recognition for my outstanding results. I totaled 6 years with the company, and have nothing but good things to say about my time there.
The one itch I could not scratch during my time at Pepsi was my desire to own my own business. Building Sweep has felt so natural. I feel like I have found a more fulfilling purpose to my life. The cleaning business is so common, but outdated. It's difficult to get started because there is an overwhelming amount of options and unclear pricing. I have a vision for a modern and transparent cleaning service for the busy, young professional. During my time at Pepsi, I had weeks at a time where I could not find the time to keep up with my house cleaning. If I had Sweep, it would have taken a lot of the stress off my plate.
Hobbies
My hobbies include playing sports (soccer, golf, kickball, volleyball, and pickleball), watching football (Go Blue!), fish keeping (I own a 150 gallon aquarium!), learning new things through reading and audio books, taking my dog, Thor, out for hikes, spending time with my loved ones, singing in the shower, relaxing on the beach, backyard bonfires, and building/improving my business.
